Established in December of 1789, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (or simply UNC-Chapel Hill) is known as the flagship university of the UNC System here in NC. Home of the Tarheels, UNC-Chapel Hill has been trailblazing with accomplishments such as the first university to host the world’s first internet radio station via the student radio station WXYC as well as ranking 30th according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities. UNC-Chapel Hill is also home of amazing sports teams including basketball, soccer, rugby, and field hockey. Here are the students from this lovely school fighting for environmental justice!
“Hello everyone! I am a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill studying Sociology and Environmental Studies with a minor in Public Policy. If all goes according to plan, I am hoping to become an Environmental lawyer and specialize in environmental justice cases. I am fascinated by the complex connections that humans have with our planet and how the quest for profit plays a significant role in the decisions that we make. It caught my attention to find out how the fossil fuel industry influences our educational institutions, especially the UNC System, and I am motivated to take them down! When I am not working on coal divestment initiatives or homework, you can catch me playing my saxophone for UNC Sports (Go Heels!!), playing sand volleyball, or making memes about the corruption of the fossil fuel industry!”
