Climate Change

Pope Francis warns against climate change with, “There is a real danger that we will leave future generations only rubble, deserts, and refuse.”

As a longstanding supporter of the Divest movement, the first Pope from a developing country has stood by his beliefs that climate change will threaten all aspects of our world, especially economic development and quality of life for the world’s poorest people.

The Pope spoke of the importance of the Global Climate Action Summit happening in San Francisco, California in September, and that “citizen pressure groups” were critical if political and financial leaders are to listen to the warnings of the scientific community. He also said that financial institutions “have an important role to play, as part both of the problem and its solution.”
